Day 1Day 1 Aqaba – Baptism – Mukawer – Nebo – Madaba
On the first day of your tour, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Aqaba and take you on a day trip to Madaba and Mount Nebo. The first stop will be at the Baptism Site, also known as Bethany, where Jesus Christ was baptized by St. John the Baptist. This site is now one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Catholicism.
Next, you will visit the town of Madaba, where you can see the famous 6th century mosaic map of Palestine at St. George’s church. Then, you will head to Mount Nebo, which is believed to be the place where Prophet Moses viewed the promised land before his death and is said to be his burial site.
Finally, you will visit Mukawer, also known as Machaerus, which was once the stronghold of Herod Antipas. This is the place where St. John the Baptist was imprisoned after Salome’s dance, as ordered by Herod. After this, you will return to your hotel in Aqaba.
